Taiqiu sweet persimmons in the planting base of Xiangxi Yuansen Fruit and Vegetable Professional Cooperative of Que’er Village, Huayuan Town are coming onto the market, attracting many tourists to purchase and taste.

Flat round sweet persimmons cover the branches of low persimmon trees. Long Jie, head of the cooperative, said that the sweet persimmon garden has always insisted on using organic fertilizer and surrounding farmers’ cow manure, sheep manure and other farm manure. Sufficient fertilizer brings a bumper harvest this year.

Taiqiu sweet persimmon is an early-maturing sweet persimmon variety, which matures around mid-September and can bear fruit for 2 months. A single fruit weighs 300 to 400 grams, with a sugar content of 14% to 21%. It is rich in various amino acids, carotene, Vitamin C, and is highly favored by consumers.

With the ripening of persimmons, several well-known fruit industry groups in China have placed a stack of orders, which makes the order volume for sweet persimmons of the cooperative skyrocketing. Through order-based sales, they are shipped to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and other places.

“During the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, we sent 20,000 to 25,000 kilograms to Xinrongmao, Baiguoyuan, and Changsha’s Baoguo Alliance. During the National Day holiday, orders are expected to continue to increase,” said Long Jie.

In recent years, the cooperative has worked to improve varieties, and selected out varieties that are suitable for consumers’ taste. At present, the base has three varieties of sweet persimmons for consumers to choose from, with a total planting area of 370 mu (about 24.67 hectares).

Among them, there are a total of 260 mu (about 17.33 hectares) of Taiqiu sweet persimmons. This year, more than 150 mu (10 hectares) haven’t born fruits. It’s expected that the output will reach about 75,000 kilograms, with sales revenue of over 1 million yuan.

According to the current market price, the total output value of 370 mu (about 24.67 hectares) of sweet persimmons is expected to reach about 4 million yuan.

The persimmon industry has provided many job opportunities for surrounding villagers, with an annual labor fee of over 300,000 yuan paid.

The cooperative opened its orchard for picking on September 24 and will not close it until the end of November. This year, the orchard has also added sightseeing projects like barbecue and camping to provide tourists with a better picking experience.
